The Home Families Bill
Delaware bill cuts home buying tax for many families
An Act To Amend Title 30 Of The Delaware Code Relating To Decreasing The State's Realty Transfer Tax Rate Of Taxation.
Good for everyday people ·
This bill would lower the tax you pay when buying a home, especially for less expensive houses, making it cheaper to own a home.
Our take
What we think, in plain words.
This bill would make it cheaper to buy or sell a home in Delaware. Right now, when you buy a home, you pay a state tax of 3% on its value. This bill would get rid of that state tax completely for homes that cost $350,000 or less. For homes costing between $350,000 and $500,000, the state tax rate would also go down. This means more money would stay in your pocket, making homeownership more reachable for many families. Some might worry that the state would collect less money for other important programs if this tax is lowered.
