The Apartment Buildings Bill
Tenants get first dibs to buy their apartment buildings
STATE GOVERNMENT-TECH
Good for everyday people ·
This bill would give renters in large apartment buildings the right to match a buyer's price and purchase their building before the landlord sells it.
Our take
What we think, in plain words.
When a big apartment building goes up for sale, tenants usually have no say and can get pushed out by new owners who raise the rent. This bill changes the game by giving renters a fair shot to team up, match the asking price, and buy the property themselves. It also slaps heavy fines on landlords who try to trick or force tenants into giving up this right. If you rent in a larger building, this gives you a chance to own your home and keep your community together.
