What we think, in plain words.
At first glance, this looks like a huge win for anyone who owns a car. It wipes out the local fee you pay every year to renew your registration. But there is a massive catch. Towns rely on that money to fix roads and pay for local services. If this passes, towns will lose over 300 million dollars a year. To make up for it, they will almost certainly have to raise your property taxes or cut services. The state legislature's committee already voted 18 to 0 against it, showing that lawmakers see the danger of defunding towns.
