A plan to help disabled people get housing loans
Directing the department of business and economic affairs to produce a report detailing methods to increase lending practices for housing developments that help persons with disabilities.
Mixed: some good, some bad ·
This bill asks the state to figure out how to get banks to give more loans for housing that is built for people with disabilities.
Our take
What we think, in plain words.
Finding a home that works for a wheelchair or other special needs is incredibly hard. This bill is a small but helpful step. It forces the state to sit down with banks and disability advocates to write a plan for better housing loans. They will look at things like tax breaks to encourage banks to lend money for accessible homes. But there is a catch. The state did not give the agency any money to write this report, and the agency says hiring an expert could cost up to $500,000. Right now, the bill is struggling to survive in committee, so if you care about accessible housing, now is the time to speak up.
