This bill would help communities keep enough volunteer firefighters. It would do this in two ways. First, it would stop bosses from punishing workers who leave their jobs to help in an emergency. This means volunteer firefighters would not have to worry about losing their job or getting in trouble for helping out. Second, it would give bosses a tax break if they hire volunteer emergency responders. This could make it easier for bosses to support their workers who volunteer. Some might say this bill costs taxpayers money because of the tax breaks. But supporters believe it is worth it to make sure we have enough people ready to help in a crisis.
