The Tell Parents Bill
Employers must tell parents about abuse at teen jobs
AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 37 and Title 50, relative to employment of minors.
Good for everyday people ·
If a boss suspects a teen worker is being abused on the job, this bill would force them to tell the parents within one day.
Our take
What we think, in plain words.
Teenagers are vulnerable when they enter the workforce. Right now, a boss might look the other way if a young worker is being harassed or abused on company property. This bill would force employers to speak up and tell parents right away. The fines are a bit small, and the money goes to the state instead of the family. Still, it is a strong step to keep kids safe at work and keep parents in the loop.

The facts
What the bill actually says, no spin.
- Bosses would have 24 hours to tell parents if they suspect a teen worker is facing abuse at work.
- Companies that break this rule would pay a $1,000 fine the first time.
- The fine goes up to $2,000 if the company hides abuse again.
- The fine money goes to the state labor department, not the victim's family.
