The Fertility Preservation Bill
Insurers must cover fertility preservation for patients facing chemotherapy
Health insurance; coverage for standard fertility preservation procedures.
Good for everyday people ·
This bill forces large employer health plans to pay for egg or sperm freezing for patients facing medical treatments that could make them infertile.
Our take
What we think, in plain words.
Medical treatments like chemotherapy can save a patient's life but destroy their ability to have children. Freezing eggs or sperm is incredibly expensive, and insurance often refuses to pay. This bill forces large health plans to cover these procedures just like any other medical care, giving patients a chance to start a family later. However, it leaves out people who buy their own insurance or work for small businesses.
