The Choose Medical Bill
Allows terminally ill adults to choose medical aid in dying
Health care; decision-making, definitions, medical aid in dying, penalties.
Good for everyday people ·
This bill lets adults with a terminal illness ask for medicine to peacefully end their lives, while making it a serious crime to pressure someone into the choice.
Our take
What we think, in plain words.
This bill gives terminally ill people the ultimate choice over their own bodies. It adds a new right for patients who are suffering. At the same time, it builds strong walls to protect vulnerable people. Anyone who tries to trick or force a sick person into ending their life will face serious felony charges. Doctors are protected from lawsuits if they follow the strict rules, but no doctor is forced to help if they disagree with the practice. Overall, it puts the power in the hands of the patient.
